Cannabis: An Ancient Plant Medicine

Getting the Facts Straight on CBD

While there has been a lot of hype about CBD over the past few years, there is still a lot of confusion around it. What exactly is it? Does it get you high? What exactly does it do? How are you supposed to use it? We answer some of those questions here.

1

Cannabis has Two Species: Hemp & Marijuana

Cannabis is a genus of flowering plant with two subcategories: hemp and marijuana. Hemp refers to cannabis plants with very low THC content (THC is the psychoactive component of cannabis) and high in CBD, while marijuana is high in THC content and lower in CBD.
Hemp plants were traditionally used as food, medicine, rope, clothing paper and other crucial resources. Marijuana, on the other hand, has been traditionally used in plant medicine, sacred ritual and recreational enjoyment.

2

CBD is a Type of Plant Compound Called a Cannabinoid

CBD stands for Cannabidiol, and is a type of naturally occurring plant compound called a cannabinoid. Hemp has over 100 different cannabinoids, and CBD is just one of them.
Studies show that CBD may help to reduce stress, relieve anxiety, promote balance/homeostasis in the body, improve sleep and reduce inflammation.

3

Humans Evolved with Cannabinoids as a Major Part of their Diet

Throughout history, the hemp plant was used as food.
How do we know this? The human body has an entire system of cannabinoid receptors running throughout the brain, organs, immune system, connective tissues and glands. This system is called the Endocannabinoid System.

4

CBD Does Not Get You High

CBD is not psychoactive, and therefore does not get you high. However, it does help you feel more calm, reduce feelings of anxiety and generally feel more balanced.

Why Our Hemp is Different

We believe in using the natural form of hemp oil (which is rich in CBD) that we could get our hands on. We are proud to use organic, full-spectrum hemp distillate from Hudson Hemp, a regenerative farm using best in class agricultural techniques to produce craft hemp thatโ€™s free of pesticides and other toxic chemicals.
