life of the mind
The Ayurvedic View on Mental Health
In Ayurveda, mental well-being is called Sattva — a state of clarity, peace, and balance. When Sattva is strong, the mind feels calm and steady. When disturbed, the mind becomes clouded by stress, worry, or heaviness.
Ayurveda recognizes three mental states:
- Sattva (clarity, harmony, balance)
- Rajas (restlessness, anxiety, overstimulation)
- Tamas (inertia, sadness, heaviness)
The goal is not to eliminate emotions but to strengthen Sattva — bringing the mind back into balance through food, herbs, and daily rituals.
